An infection occurs when a microorganism gets into your body from the outside and causes harm. The microorganism uses that individual’s body to sustain itself, reproduce, and colonize. The microorganism can multiply quickly. There are many types of infectious diseases. These diseases can be viral, bacterial, parasitic and fungal. Infections can spread in several different ways.

  • Transfer of body fluids
  • Polluted food and water

Causes of Infection

Infectious diseases are caused by a variety of agents that attack your body from outside. These agents include

  • Bacteria
  • Fungi
  • Parasites
  • Prions

Symptoms occur when your cells are damaged or destroyed by the infection or your immune system responds to the infection.
