Diabetes is a chronic disease which occurs when pancreas is not able to make insulin. With Diabetes your body is not able to make enough insulin or cannot effectively use the insulin. Diabetes can damage your eyes, nerves, kidney, heart and other organs of your body.

Type of Diabetes

There are 3 different types of diabetes.

  1. Type 1 Diabetes: Type 1 diabetes can occur at any age, but it occurs frequently in child. In this type of diabetes your body produces little or no insulin. In this case, you have to take insulin injection on daily basis. Only about 5-10% of the world’s population is affected by this diabetes.
  2. Type 2 Diabetes: Type 2 Diabetes is most common in adults. In type 2 diabetes your body does not properly use the insulin produced by your pancreas. Around 90% of the world’s population is affected by this diabetes. In Type 2 diabetes patient need to maintain healthy lifestyle, healthy diet with physical activities.
  3. Gestational Diabetes: Gestational Diabetes occurs in women during pregnancy and associated with complications to both mother and child. It usually disappears after pregnancy.

Symptoms of Diabetes

General symptoms of diabetes include:

  1. Increased Thirst
  2. Frequent Urination
  3. Fatigue
  4. increased hunger
  5. Weight Loss
  6. Blurry Vision
  7. Sores that don’t heal
  8. Decrease sex drive in men
  9. Poor muscle strength in men
  10. Vaginal dryness in women
  11. Urinary tract infections in women

Causes of Diabetes

Causes of Type 1 Diabetes: Doctor’s do not know the exact cause of Type 1 diabetes.  In some case your immune system mistakenly attacks and destroys insulin-producing beta cells in the pancreas. Type 1 diabetes may be genetic.

Causes of Type 2 Diabetes: The cause of Type 2 diabetes is a combination of genetic and lifestyle factors. If you are not physically active or over weight then you have more chance for Type 2 diabetes.

Causes of Gestational Diabetes: The cause of Gestational Diabetes is hormonal changes during pregnancy along with genetic and lifestyle factor.

Treatment of Diabetes

For Type 1 diabetes, insulin is the main treatment. Your lifestyle change and diet will help you in the treatment of Type 2 diabetes. Lifestyle and a healthy diet are not enough for Type 2 diabetes. You have to take proper medication under the guidance of a diabetologist.
