Blood Pressure is a measurement of the pressure your heart uses to pump blood around your body. Your heart pumps blood into your arteries with every heart beat. Your blood pressure is highest when your heart is pumping the blood; this is called systolic pressure. When your heart is at rest between beats, your blood pressure falls; this is called diastolic pressure. Blood Pressure is measured in millimetres of mercury (mmHg).

If your blood pressure is 140/90 mmHg, it means your systolic pressure is 140 and your diastolic pressure is 90. In general, ideal blood pressure is considered as 90/60mmHg and 120/80mmhHg.
